One Systems Speakers Drive Chicago's Energetic Rooftop Lounge
Nashville, Tennessee – Chicago's trendy, original restaurant, Epic recently installed One Systems loudspeakers in their new rooftop bar aptly named, Epic Sky. The sound system design and installation for Epic Sky was performed by Cinema Nova of Chicago, Illinois and includes an assortment of thirteen (13) One Systems 106IM full range speakers and 118 Sub-W subwoofers.
Epic, which serves American and French cuisine, opened in December 2009 and is led by a team of seasoned talent including Executive Chef, Stephen Wambach. The restaurant includes many distinct dining areas including a casual lounge menu for the first floor, a multi-course dining experience on the second floor, and Epic Sky, a 3,000 square-foot rooftop bar with amazing views, that serves only liquid refreshment. Epic Sky boasts a 28-foot bar, intimate lounge seating for 90, as well as two private cabanas. During the construction of Epic Sky, which opened in the spring of 2010, Epic's restaurateurs tapped Cinema Nova and CEO Chae Chong to design and install the ideal sound system to deliver the best rooftop sound system in Chicago.
One Systems 106IM speakers are mounted on the 9 ft. walls surrounding the bar using specially- designed One Systems U-Brackets that are strategically placed at ear height. The 106IM is one of the most compact speaker models from One Systems. Its injection-molded enclosure houses a high-quality 6–inch two-way system, featuring full weatherproofing that offers a high degree of protection against UV rays, extreme temperatures and unpredictable precipitation. The 118Sub-W features an 18-inch high output, low-frequency subwoofer designed for sound reinforcement applications. The sub also includes full weatherproofing and a 3-layer 'rain shield' grille thatminimizes direct rain contact with the system's transducers. The entire system reproduces vocals for music and speech reinforcement with superior articulation, pristine musical reproduction and high output – perfect for the rooftop bar.
"Our client wanted a premium, high-fidelity system to compete with other places around Chicago. In essence, they wanted the best rooftop sound system in town," says Chong. After discovering One Systems at the 2010 InfoComm, Chong knew that they were the perfect fit for this application.
